Anatolii S.	I was granted the Golden Visa in 2020, and my residence card expired in May 2022. Since then, I have been struggling to renew my GV residence card. I managed to submit documents to the SEF for renewal in June 2022, but I have not received any feedback or updates since. I attempted an automatic renewal in January 2023 and even paid all the required fees (more than €3,000). My application for automatic renewal seems to have been approved, but I still have not received my renewed residence card - it has been 11 weeks since I made the payment. Furthermore, the authorities are not communicating with me - I cannot reach the SEF by phone, and they do not respond to my emails. Now, the Government is considering cancelling all GV's retroactively, which I find both embarrassing and disappointing. I thought I had come to a democratic country where the rule of law was a top priority. Was I mistaken?

Jonathan T.	My family and I are excited to support Portugal and to become residents and even citizens of this wonderful country. We make large personal sacrifices to comply with the investment requirements. We started our investment in July 2022, completed our purchase in October 2022. We finalized our documents just after the Prime Minister announcement on Feb 16 (background checks and other documents submitted early March 2023). Needless to say our family has been distressed and the announced changes, the potential retroactive nature of the announced law, and the immediate closure of the program. Our hopes and dreams to help grow new traditions in Portugal were shaken with the PM announcement. Please maintain the Golden Visa program in its current form, and allow families like ours to grow with Portugal instead of being shut out without warning.

Agora o governo português aceitou o nosso pedido de visto gold e emitiu o cartão, aceitou também o nosso investimento em Portugal, o que significa que os termos do contrato na altura entraram em vigor. De acordo com o espírito do direito dos contratos, o governo português deveria manter os termos da época, em vez de nos obrigar unilateralmente a viver em Portugal 183 dias por ano. Isso é extremamente injusto e irracional para os candidatos que já possuem um visto gold. Fazer isso é uma violação completa da devida integridade. Do ponto de vista do investidor, é até enganoso. Se o governo português insistir em seguir seu próprio caminho e alterar unilateralmente as regras de repente, isso afetará muito a confiança da comunidade internacional na reputação de Portugal no futuro. Se Portugal voltar a enfrentar uma crise económica e precisar de injecção de capital por parte de investidores estrangeiros, os investidores irão certamente aprender as lições da história e nunca irão investir em países sem integridade. Michelle B.	Please consider grandfathering the applications submitted to SEF. We have done everything on our end to follow Portuguese law, including paying a lot of money in taxes. We are only asking you to be fair in return. We would like to live in Portugal permanently in 5-8 years which is the reason for our this investment. We have used a large portion of our savings to start the process because we are currently not able to be there full time.

Ramakrishna S.	Making retroactive changes is in the realm of bait and switch for investors that committed their hard earned capital to Portugal. Bait and Switch is illegal in most countries for private entities and should not be associated with a nation as rich in culture and history as Portugal!

Cristiano P.	Como investidor no programa Golden Visa de Portugal, fiquei profundamente desanimado com a aparente falta de consistência e pontualidade por parte do Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras (SEF), a entidade responsável pelo processamento das candidaturas. Apesar de promessas iniciais de processamento célere, a minha candidatura tem estado pendente há mais de um ano, causando-me grande frustração. Adicionando a esta frustração está a notícia recente de que o governo decidiu terminar o programa e os benefícios que ele implicava, sem qualquer consideração pelo bom senso dos investidores como eu. Embora eu entenda que mudanças de política são parte do curso natural da governação, é imperativo que um período razoável de transição seja estabelecido para permitir que os candidatos existentes tenham uma chance justa de concluir o processo e colher os benefícios que lhes foram prometidos.
