Just as Jewish women have the right to wear a shal or frumka, Muslim women have the right to wear a niqab or burqa. Just as any Portuguese woman has the right to wear whatever she wants, Muslim women have the same right to wear whatever they want. If you are so Islamophobic that you cannot respect this basic principle of equality, then you have no right to be a politician representing all people. Stay home and let others lead.

Opposition to Law 58/2026: A Defense of Reliaious Freedom and Personal Autonomy Portugal's Law 58/2026 is fundamentally unjust and sets a dangerous precedent for personal liberty. A society that truly values freedom cannot simultaneously dictate what a woman is allowed to wear simply because others might disagree with her choice This legislation is deeply flawed for several key reasons: Violation of Religious Freedom: The right to practice religion according to one's own conscience is a universal human right. For women who sincerely choose to wear the niqab as an expression of their faith, this law acts as a direct and targeted infringement on their spiritual autonomy. Religion must remain a matter of free will. * Glaring Double Standards: The law permits face coverings for health, climate, entertainment, and professional reasons. If a person can legally cover their face to block the cold wind, protect against illness, or perform in a play, it is hypocritical to penalize a woman for covering her face.

Freedom for women to wear niqab! It is their rights to practice their religion! Portugal??

A person should have the right to practice their religion. And that means wearing religious clothing.

Freedom of Religion. Stop oppressing women.

Not ok

Laws as such will only increase bad will among people and will stop a country and people from working or help each other.

A woman should be given a right to live a decent and respectable life according to the law's of the religion she follows.

Give women their basic rights
Ajdin P.
This law violates the most BASIC fundamental human right, FREEDOM OF RELIGION. May Allah support the sisters being oppressed by the Portuguese government.
Emad K.
The Portugese government is requested to be fair and just. Just as it is a woman's right to dress in a bikini or a mini-skirt in public under Portugese law, the same goes for the Niqab; otherwise, it is hypocrisy, and an oppression against women and their rights. As far as crime is considered, then countries like those in the Arabian Gulf where women widely practise the Niqab are countries with statistically the least crime in the world.

Leave us women alone, if you allow people to walk around in clothing that barely covers, you should also allow people to cover themselves up as they wish

This is injustice and a violation of women’s rights
Hammad .
Women should be allowed to practice their faith in public spaces in any country. I am not in favour of this law which is passed in Portugal that women cannot cover their face. It is a complete violation of women's rights and basic human right.
