We want to become Portuguese citizens for many reasons, including that you are a country that respects the rule of law. To retroactively change the rules, or to change the rules on renewals, is not aligned with your values.

No reputable country or company changes its laws retroactively. What good is a contract if one side can rewrite it whenever they wish? Nobody will want to deal with Portugal if they just cheat their way out of contracts!

The ARI Scheme must be kept as amended into law in 2012 and again with effect on 1/1/2022 and cannot be retroactively changed per Article 14 of the Constitution as well as the principle of protection of trust in Article 2 of the constitution, (b) the principle of equality in Article 13, between foreigners and Portuguese citizens, (c) the right to private property in Article 62. You can stop taking applications for the ARI some date in the future which you already know. Which someone should sue under Article 22 for the Governments misleading statements which they know are unconstitutional per Article 18 of the Constitution.

My name is Hudson Akridge, and I've applied for the Portuguese Golden Visa Investment from the Fund Investment route on the 28th of Feb 2023, 14 days after the "proposed" end of Golden Visa investment options. First, I have a great love of Portugal, I have many friends over there, and I chose the fund investment route specifically because it put more money directly into the Portuguese economy by investing in VC funds that were created and managed by Portuguese Fund Management groups and invested back into the country, whether by streamlining the medical options available to the people, or by supporting the underlying industrial manufacturing of the country. I want to be a good citizen in Portugal and I've been looking forward to moving over there for many years. I'm extremely disappointed that the current government proposal is trying to retroactively apply a future proposed law back in time to invalidate my visa application and my significant investment into the Portuguese economy. This is not just unfair for those of us that have been working on our Visa applications for roughly a year+, but it's also preventing me from being able to support the Portuguese economy.

As Canadian citizens currently, the purchase of a home in Portugal and applying for the Golden Visa is intended for my wife and I spend a significant amount of time each year now and to retire in Portugal, with residency and in a position to apply for citizenship as we plan to leave Canada in 5-7 years. We had planned according to the program in effect at that time. We met all of the requirements and have invested a significant amount in Portugal and within 5-7 years are looking to make Portugual our home and contribute to the economy, tax regime and community at large.
